Rows, Columns, and Data

Formatting changes can be applied to rows, columns, or data cells, rather than the entire grid.

Unless a selection is made from the grid, any changes made from the Format All functions will be applied to the entire grid. For example, if a user underlines the grid front, all row and column headers and data cells will be underlined; if a user selects underline from the Rows drop-down, all the row headers in the grid will be underlined.

However, if a user underlines an active selection, only the given selection(s) will be underlined.

It is not possible to change the font type or size for a selection; changing the font from the main ribbon will change the font for the entire grid. If a selection is made in the grid and a new font type or size is chosen, the selection will not be applied.

Formatting Rows, Columns, and Data

Users can apply formatting changes only to row headers, column headers, or data cells by making changes from the Rows, Columns, or Data drop-downs respectively.

In the example below, row headers have been bolded, while column headers have been underlined, and data cells have been italicized.

Rows and Columns

From the Rows and Columns drop-downs users can change the font type, size, color, typographical emphasis, alignment, image size, and clear custom formatting. For additional formatting options, click More to open the Grid Rows Settings or Grid Columns Settings dialog.

Data

In addition to the functions available from the Rows and Columns drop-downs, the Data drop down also enables users to add scientific notation and change the background color of data cells. For additional formatting options, click More to open the Grid Data Settings dialog.

Changing the Grid Colors

From the Grid Rows Settings dialog and the Grid Columns Settings dialog, users can change the background and foreground (text) color by level or by selection for rows and columns respectively.
